Getting To Know: Pill
In a time when Hip Hop is being attacked from all sides, criticized and condemned, even pronounced a dead artform, we are all looking for saviors. Artists that can appeal to the mainstream audience without dumbing themselves down to move more units. In my mind, this christ-esque character would preferably stem from the South, home of notoriously unintelligible rappers like OJ Da Juiceman, Plies, and Gucci Mane; and would bridge the gap between the lyrically talented and well, the others, that have risen to fame due to catchy hooks and a collection of simple but memorable metaphors.
Background:
That said, Pill is a young rapper from the Westside of Atlanta, "Pink City" to be exact, who's built a lot of buzz on the internet in the last few months. Until now, I had never really given dude too much of a chance but he's been getting entirely too many co-signs to completely ignore. Nevertheless, we've all learned from Asher Roth that co-signs can be a pretty inaccurate way of finding out if a rapper is actually good or not; so I decided to look into it myself.

Verdict:
"Savior"? No. But Pill is most definitely worth a listen. His style has deep roots in the ATL trap scene but his main lyrical content is different from most other rappers coming from that area. While others talk about their chains, cars, and girls, Pill focuses on painting a vivid picture of what goes on where, and how, he lives. He feels that inner-city Atlanta is being ignored and therefore it's his job to show everyone what goes on down there. While Pill is probably nothing to jump out of your seat about, I'd recommend that you check him out whenever you get a chance. Look out for his new mixtape, 4075: The Refill posted here when it drops Nov. 17th.
