So I'm sitting here, thinking about ways to expand my brand, hopefully to bring some more traffic to the site, and the idea of a podcasting comes up. I know a few other hip hop blogs do it on occasion (EX) and there are sites dedicated to such things, but do people avidly follow podcasts? Would it be worth it for me to look into and possibly create one for my own blog?
A podcast is like a mix. It runs straight through, one mp3, which is good for listeners that would be playing it in their car or during other time consuming activities, but I can't see the benefit of something like a that when your listening using an mp3 player or on a computer. Individual tracks, I assume, are the general preferability in those occasions.
But even then, there aren't many uses for a long, bulky mp3 in any occasion these days. If your in your car, why not just listen to the radio? And if you don't want to listen to the radio and have access to your mp3 player, why would you choose a music podcast over being able to play individual songs from your own library?
At this point, I can't say that I see many positive aspects of a music podcast. I could understand a talk-radio type podcast, run like a real radio show, but many of us aren't quite up to that level yet to be able to put in that much time and develop good content.
The other thing I could appreciate is if an actual DJ did a frequent podcast. I wouldn't mind hearing a mix or set from a real pro who's music would be original rather than just a collection of random music. But again, not many of us can boast that we have the skill set or time to be able to pull off something like that.
So it looks like I won't be making a Mookie The Dope podcast anytime soon. On to the next one.
Do you listen to podcasts?
