I'm usually impressed with the content that comes out of Complex, but this Top 25 Albums of 2009 list that they just dropped, I can't say the same for. Had to go in real quick and put some of they're slip-ups on blast.
First of all, mixtapes are not albums. Not that big of a deal but if they knew they were including mixtapes in the list it might have been wise to say so in the prelude so when the first project the reader see's is J. Cole's The Warm Up they won't say "that's a mixtape, dumbass".
Secondly, the factor that really prompted me to write this post in the first place, Nicki Minaj's mixtape is on the list. And not just on the list, at an astonishing #12 of all places. Listening to and liking that girl should officially disqualify you as a rap critic. Period.
And why is Kid Cudi at the top of the list? His album was just good at best, nevermind the best of the year, especially if your including music from other genres, which it seems they were.
Lastly, where the f-ck is Mos Def?!

I really don't think their pics are super crazy. You're right mos should be on there, I think their non-hiphop picks are on point too, Passion Pit and Phoenix's releases were some of my favs. Put the XX in there, and you got my top 3 non-hiphop records right there.

No it's not that their picks were extremely out there or anything, I just had The Ecstatic #1 on my list so I was surprised not to see that in there at all while something like a Nicky Minaj mixtape came in at #12.
