Review of Wiz Khalifa's "Deal Or No Deal"

I can't say I know much about Wiz Khalifa, but I've been hearing good things about the Young Money alumni ever since we've been approaching the release of his sophomore album, Deal Or No Deal so I decided to pick up a copy to see what the kid's really about.

After listening through a few times I can't say I was too impressed with the album overall. Wiz has potential, a lot of potential. Good flow, clear voice, and strong punchlines resonate throughout his songs but mediocre production and a lack of lyrical content stop this album from being what it could be.

A few, quite a few too many songs in which the main lyrical topic is girls created a lot of skip tracks for me. Not that I don't enjoy the occasional track about women, but too much can really make or break an album. I didn't buy this to hear Wiz Khalifa rhyme about banging some girl in his studio, but if your into that kinda thing...

The other note I made about the lyrical side of the album was the appearance of a couple cringe-worthy hooks. I don't think that at this point Wiz can really afford a bad hook. His rhymes aren't that tight, and the production isn't good enough to hold the track up on most of the tracks, so everything else had to be on point to make this a dope album. It wasn't.

That's not to say that there isn't some heat. Trust me, there is. "This Plane", the first single is dope and I also dug the first track "Bout Y'all", and the last "Young Boy Talk", along with "Frendly" which features another one of my favorite young spitters, Curren$y.

This isn't a bad album but I'm gonna go out and say that it could have easily passed as a good mixtape. Worth picking apart on iTunes for the 4 tracks above and whatever else your feeling.
