Finally got the chance to play Activision's new shot at Hip Hop fans, DJ Hero and that joint is bangin'! You have this small turntable with three buttons on a rotating disk along with a crossfader, turn-dial and "euphoria" button to the left (if your right-handed). Basically you just hit the buttons as they come just like Guitar Hero but you also have to hit the scratches which take the place of the long notes like on GH, and the crossfades which is a whole new element - hard to get used to.
Most of the mixes are on point, you can tell they brought in some professionals to make sure everything sounded tight. I thought a couple of them were questionable but it was mostly because I didn't like one (or both) of the songs being mixed. The "Rock The Bells" x "Bittersweet Symphony" mix below is dope.
As far as the gameplay goes, any hip hop fan is gonna get into it. The interface and layout give you a little more room to actually vibe to the song than Guitar Hero did plus DJ Hero allows some in-game customization if the mix.
One drawback though was the depth of the game overall. I'd have liked to see some kind of story mode incorporated into the game - your just going through set lists on this one. And the fact that you can't get boo'ed off stage makes the game more approachable but eventually leads to it getting a bit boring.
Overall this game gets my approval but keep in mind I'm not a professional DJ, those expecting a realistic simulation would probably come away disappointed.
