"The Carter" - A Lil Wayne Documentary

By now I'm sure a lot of you have seen, or at least heard of "The Carter", a recently released documentary presented by QD3 Entertainment about Lil Wayne's life. In a nutshell, a camera crew followed Wayne around for about a 6 month period which included before and after the release of Tha Carter III. This is some of the footage they gathered.

I took some time out and watched it awhile ago and overall it's a pretty interesting flick. You really get to see inside Weezy's everyday life, what he does, how he handles himself, the thoughts that go through his head, even what people close to him think about his lifestyle.

The documentary explains in text at the very beginning that Weezy pulled his support of the project after he saw the final cut. To be honest, I would have too if I was him. The shots they chose to include in the film, frankly, make Wayne look ignorant, shallow-minded, and at times like a straight up junkie.

I can't even recall as I'm typing this out right now a time in the film where Wayne didn't have his styrofoam cup (full of cough syrup) and a blunt nearby. I'm not saying that Wayne's addiction makes him stupid, but from a third-person's perspective, any dude constantly sipping on cough syrup (of all things) isn't gonna look too intelligent.
Another thing that caught my attention was the fact that Wayne really doesn't listen to any other artists. Nobody. Citing the excuse that he doesn't need to listen to anybody else because he is always critiquing his own work and making it better. But how are you supposed to get any better when you are only critiquing from one set of standards? Logic fail.

Maybe it was just the selection of shots that they chose to include in the documentary, but judging from them, Wayne seems like he needs an ego check. Every rapper says they're the best, it's practically mandatory, but Wayne truly believes that he is, and wrongfully so. Makes me wish one of these bum-ass rappers looking for beef to boost their record sales would pick a fight with him instead of Jay Z.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty well put together production and worth the time to watch. If you spot it while doing holiday shopping this weekend I encourage you to pick it up.
